Cancun is
located on the eastern
tip of the Yucatan Peninsula, on the edge of the Caribbean. Thirty
years ago it was a small fishing village. Then the Mexican government,
after an extensive search, decided that the area was ideally
suited to be developed as a new tourist destination. Perhaps never has
a government decision been so understated.
Cancun is now one of the most popular resorts in the
world. The Cancun
area receives 35% of Mexico's tourism revenue, and the percentage is
growing. Tourists arrive daily from Asia, Latin America, Europe,
Canada, the United States and
Mexico. |
